Narrative and Response
Description
The OTRS Agent Frontend configuration endpoint can be accessed without authentication. This allows unauthenticated remote users to retrieve internal application configuration that is intended for use by the authenticated Agent Frontend. The exposed information may include configured frontend routes and their associated authorization groups, authentication configuration, enabled product features, third-party integration settings, and other implementation details. The exposed configuration does not directly contain user credentials or provide unauthorized modification of the OTRS configuration. However, the disclosed information may assist an attacker in fingerprinting the affected OTRS installation and identifying enabled functionality or security-relevant configuration that could be used to prepare further attacks. This issue affects OTRS: * 8.0.X * 2023.X * 2024.X * 2025.X * 2026.X before 2026.7.X

"executiveSummary": "This vulnerability is an unauthenticated Information Disclosure flaw affecting the OTRS Agent Frontend configuration endpoint.\nThe issue permits remote, unauthenticated actors to retrieve sensitive application configuration metadata, which is otherwise restricted to authorized administrative or agent roles.\nImpacted versions include OTRS 8.0.X, 2023.X, 2024.X, 2025.X, and versions of 2026.X prior to 2026.7.X.\nWhile the vulnerability does not grant direct access to user credentials or allow modification of the system configuration, the disclosure of internal routes, authorization groups, and third-party integration settings significantly lowers the barrier for reconnaissance.\nAn attacker can leverage this information to fingerprint the OTRS installation precisely, identifying enabled features and security-relevant logic to facilitate targeted follow-up attacks.\nThe risk is categorized as a failure in access control, where the endpoint lacks the necessary authentication middleware to verify the requester's session status before transmitting internal system data.\nNo specific preconditions or complex exploitation requirements are noted, as the endpoint is exposed directly to remote network traffic.",
"technicalDetails": "The vulnerability resides within the OTRS Agent Frontend configuration retrieval mechanism, which fails to enforce mandatory authentication checks on a specific configuration endpoint.\nThe root cause is a deficiency in the access control logic, allowing unauthorized HTTP requests to trigger the serialization of internal system state and configuration parameters that are intended solely for authenticated agent sessions.\nThe attack flow initiates when an unauthenticated user sends an HTTP request to the vulnerable endpoint associated with the Agent Frontend configuration. The application, failing to validate the session token or authentication header of the request, proceeds to retrieve the internal configuration object from the backend.\nThis object contains critical architectural metadata, including, but not limited to: defined frontend routing structures, the mapping of routes to specific authorization groups, underlying authentication provider configurations, toggled product features, and technical details regarding third-party service integrations.\nBy parsing the returned configuration, an attacker can map the attack surface of the OTRS installation. Identifying which modules are enabled or disabled allows an adversary to correlate the instance version with known security weaknesses or unpatched components. Furthermore, the disclosure of authorization group structures provides insight into the internal permissions model, aiding in the formulation of privilege escalation or horizontal traversal strategies in subsequent phases of an attack.\nThe vulnerability affects OTRS 8.0.X, 2023.X, 2024.X, 2025.X, and 2026.X before 2026.7.X. Since the endpoint is network-reachable, it is susceptible to automated scanning and manual exploitation from any remote source.\nPost-exploitation, the information gathered does not provide immediate administrative control or credential access, but it effectively weaponizes the victim's own configuration against them by removing the 'security through obscurity' layer and providing a roadmap for further exploit development, such as targeting specific, incorrectly secured, or outdated third-party integrations identified in the disclosed data."
