Narrative and Response
Description
SuiteCRM is an open-source, enterprise-ready Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software application. Prior to 7.15.2 and 8.10.2, the generatePdf entry point loads an arbitrary record through BeanFactory::getBean() without checking the requesting user's record access. The affected flow begins at modules/AOS_PDF_Templates/generatePdf.php and uses generatePdf, and BeanFactory::getBean() to carry attacker-controlled data or authorization state into the security-sensitive operation. Any authenticated user can read fields from records denied by configured ACL roles, including contact, financial, deal, and custom-field data. This issue is fixed in versions 7.15.2 and 8.10.2.

"executiveSummary": "An improper access control vulnerability exists in SuiteCRM, specifically within the PDF generation entry point. The vulnerability allows authenticated users to bypass ACL-based security restrictions to access unauthorized records.\nThe flaw resides in the generatePdf functionality, where the application fails to perform authorization checks before retrieving records via BeanFactory::getBean(). By manipulating input parameters, an attacker can force the system to load and potentially expose sensitive information from records they are not permitted to view, including financial data, contact details, and proprietary custom fields.\nThis vulnerability affects SuiteCRM versions prior to 7.15.2 and 8.10.2. The risk is significant as it permits lateral data access within the CRM environment without requiring elevated administrative privileges, undermining the principle of least privilege and data confidentiality. Successful exploitation requires an active, authenticated session, but does not require specific roles, meaning any standard user can perform unauthorized data retrieval.",
"technicalDetails": "The root cause of this vulnerability is an insecure implementation of the record retrieval process within the PDF generation module. Specifically, the file located at modules/AOS_PDF_Templates/generatePdf.php invokes the BeanFactory::getBean() function to instantiate CRM records based on user-supplied input parameters.\nThe application logic fails to validate the current user's security context or ACL permissions before passing the user-controlled record identifiers to the factory function. In SuiteCRM's architecture, BeanFactory::getBean() is a centralized mechanism for object instantiation; however, it does not inherently enforce access control policies unless explicitly instructed by the calling module.\nThe attack flow commences when an authenticated attacker sends a crafted request targeting the generatePdf entry point. By supplying specific identifiers corresponding to sensitive records (e.g., Accounts, Opportunities, or Contacts), the attacker manipulates the application into loading these objects into the memory context of the PDF generation process.\nBecause the application logic omits a check against the ACL roles configured for the requesting user, the subsequent PDF generation routine processes the unauthorized data as if the user had legitimate access. This allows the attacker to extract restricted data fields, which are then rendered into the output document provided to the user. The impact is a breach of data confidentiality, as attackers can systematically enumerate or scrape record data that should be protected by the software's security layer.\nThe vulnerability is limited to authenticated users; however, the lack of role-based validation means that low-privileged users can access information intended only for sales managers, finance administrators, or other restricted roles. The flaw is present in all versions prior to 7.15.2 and 8.10.2, representing a bypass of the application's core security framework regarding object access control."
